Not Cool

From the Brooklyn Paper:

"A gun-wielding perp mugged two F-train commuters in separate brutal incidents on May 7 at the Carroll Street station.

The first victim, 56, told cops that she had just gotten off the Coney Island-bound train at around 8:45 am at the President Street end of the station when a man grabbed her purse, pulled a gun on her and said, “Shut up or I’ll kill you.”"

Keep your heads on a swivel people.

  1. I'm not surprised there was a mugging in that subway. The exit from the station at Carroll is dangerous. It's been blocked off for EVER to accommodate the obscene construction project at 360 Smith Street. There is now only one entrance/exit at the Second Place end and you have to walk around a corner and through a short tunnel which is completely blind. The station agent can't see you there nor can anyone see you while coming into the entrance.

A fire would be worse. The stairway is so narrow and it's often backed up now that it's the only way in/out. I guess high-rise luxury condos getting built are more important than safety.

  2. Actually, the developer owns the subway entrance, so I'm ok with it being blocked off. It's a lot safer than walking through a construction site!

  3. Safer for the muggers, apparently.

  4. Sorry to burst your collective bubbles, but according to the paper, this happened at the President Street exit.

  5. I know that, but I go out that way now even though it's farther from my house, because the other exit seems so UNsafe! I wouldn't use that exit if 2nd place wasn't blocked off the way it is.
